GardaWorld Senior Vice President Steve Casteel participated on a panel addressing “Narcoterrorism, Organized Crime, and Political Corruption” at the 2010 Chapman Law Review Symposium recently.
Mr. Casteel, former head of intelligence for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, described the growing links between terrorist organizations and organized crime in the international drug trade, increasingly a source of funding for terrorist operations around the world.
“Many of the traditional law enforcement techniques used to combat drug trafficking and organized crime activities are highly adaptable in the fight against global terrorism,” Mr. Casteel told attendees. “Exploiting the growing reliance of terrorist groups on such criminal activities can be an effective means of reducing terrorist acts.”
