In early September, in conjunction with the Department of Health and the Erbil Governorate a team of staff GardaWorld staff conducted a medical outreach initiative in the main Internally Displaced People (IDP) camp in Erbil.
Our team consisted of four members of our permanent staff; a Doctor, a medic, a driver and a supervisor. Over five days we treated 242 people with a wide range of ailments.
Despite this, our donation of time and medical supplies was small in comparison with the scale of the IDP situation being faced by the KRG and which we are all acutely aware. The main IDP camp in Ainkawa houses approximately 2,000 people, the largest number of IDPs is in the north around Dohuk where the total number is estimated to be in the several hundreds of thousands.
We are planning to repeat our medical outreach initiative in the Erbil Governorate and in the Governorates of Dohuk and Sulaymaniyah.
