In February 2013, we committed additional funding for 6 Women Health Volunteers (WHVs) based in Baghdad in partnership with the AMAR Foundation. The AMAR International Charitable Foundation (AMAR) is one of the earliest pioneers of the Women Health Volunteer (WHV) program.

The concept was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and since 2003 has been implemented by AMAR to great effect within communities across Iraq. Our six female volunteers have been recruited locally; this serves to empower the women as they take an active and visible role in promoting the health of their communities.

The Women Health Volunteers (WHVs) will conduct home visits in the community, delivering basic but essential health training and support directly to families. The WHV program is specifically targeted towards women and children who often face real difficulty accessing fixed health facilities.
